Violence, misinformation, and threats towards our patients seeking asylum in the UK are happening all too often. We know this hatred is not representative of our nation.

Doctors of the World respond to medical crises around the globe, including in the UK since 2006. Our humanitarian teams support many across the country, including people seeking asylum, and see the trauma and distress they are experiencing right now.

The public is being told to fear the people waiting for their asylum claims to be processed in asylum accommodation. But the real threat is scapegoating migrants and a government ignoring the deep poverty affecting so many in the UK.

The companies contracted to run these hotels, and asylum accommodation at large, make millions while trapping people in unsafe, unhealthy conditions.

A humanitarian organisation should not have to respond to harm in this nation. We stand together, challenge this rhetoric, and ask that people seeking asylum are treated as human beings.
