Sorry isn’t enough, Andy Burnham. Take real action for Palestine.
For three years, Palestinians have been starved, bombed and shot. Britain has watched.
This week marks three years since Israeli authorities began blocking humanitarian aid and killing Palestinians and aid workers with drones, airstrikes and gunfire.
The so-called ceasefire of 10 October 2025 changed almost nothing. Since then, more than 1,100 people have been killed and thousands more injured.
Over three years, an estimated 73,000 Palestinians* have been reported killed, including 21,000 innocent children. Over the same period, around 2000 Israelis* have been killed, roughly 1,200 of them in Hamas-led attack on 7 October. According to UNICEF, more than a million Palestinian children in Gaza need mental health care.
Healthcare has been systematically targeted. Every one of the main hospitals in Gaza have been damaged, none are working at full capacity, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) states there have been with 45 attacks on healthcare facilities in 2026 alone. Families shelter in tents while disease spreads.
The UN's own commission of inquiry has concluded that these acts amount to genocide. Genocide scholars and human rights organisations agree. What we have witnessed on the ground corroborates that finding. We can’t stand by and witness a genocide taking place in plain sight and do nothing. We know you can’t either.
Britain has been late at every step, and it still refuses to act on what the UN has found.
Andy Burnham says it's a matter for the courts. He has said sorry. He has called the suffering a "scar on the conscience of the world." But a scar is what remains once the wounding is over, and for Palestinians it isn't over.
When Andy Burnham wants to act, he acts. His government has sanctioned settlement trade. That's a start. But it won't stop the bombing, open the crossings or feed a single child, and every week he fails to act is a week people die.
Our doctors, nurses and humanitarian workers are still there. They keep working despite restrictions and despite losing their homes and family members, because survivors have nowhere else to turn. They shouldn't have to do it alone while governments look away.
We call on Prime Minister Burnham to:
-
Stop hiding behind the courts. Act on the UN's findings.
-
Use UK pressure to open the crossings. Demand safe, unimpeded aid and medical access.
-
Rally other governments. Use the UK’s influence to make other states act for Palestine.
-
Back a real, lasting ceasefire, with the healthcare and humanitarian rights and dignity of Palestinians at its centre.
He has admitted Labour "didn't get it right." Sorry isn’t enough. Now it’s time to act. Add your name and tell him the time for words is over.
